What Is In A Name
Welcome back!
There are many things that make me wonder where they got their names.
Oysters for example. Think about how it sounds - OY STERS. What are you stirring? OYs? I don’t know, I don’t even want to think about the first human desperate enough to eat one cooked, let alone raw. How about the las vegas strip> Isn’t Las Vegas more than just a strip mall? Okay, here is another one, strip mall. I am not going there.
The English language has made many different people want to learn all of the cuss words. It has no logic. Bark - are you talking about one of the sounds that a dog makes, or are you talking about the outer covering of a tree? Oh yes, then there is the word barq, which means a small boat, and yet it sounds the same as the other 2 words. Many English speaking people still have trouble with the language that they were raised to speak. Is it any wonder that people do not always communicate properly? I am not even going to mention slang, that is another whole category all by itself.
